In the Year 2525

I've just spent the morning contemplating my professional future, spit-shining the crystal ball, mapping out what needs to happen when, considering the various gauntlets I face, and calculating how old I will be the year I come up for tenure (38). Six years seems like a long time from now, but in my field, if you don't start thinking about it early, it sneaks up on you and you become a crazy stressball monster with a penchant for high fashion.*

For now, I'm trying to take things step-by-step. First order of business: a couch for my office. I don't think I'll be able to get tenure without a couch.

*Any resemblance to persons living or dead is merely coincidental.

Love the song reference.

As someone who has mapped out her life at least 345 times in the last 10 years, it always amazes me where I end up (never where I thought I was going).

Good luck with tenure!
